The bird

Installation | sculpture: 48'''x24''x24''

The work focuses on the detention of Raïf Badawi, a Saudi blogger imprisoned for 10 years, a typical example of a prisoner of conscience. The central element is a bird in flight with open wings, but which is actually a prisoner. The observer must move at an angle so that the head of the captive bird appears. A clock mechanism turns the hands of a dummy clock, reminding us of the arbitrary length of detention.

Materials: Dried dead tree bark, staghorn (sumac) leaves, rush, crab shell, wire, metal, mirror, acrylic, resin, screws, AA battery, clock mechanism, wood panel.
